Hangzhou Research Institute of Chemical Technology is a well-known research institute in China that specializes in developing fine chemicals such as paper chemicals, petroleum processing assistant, plastic agents for polymeric material and so on. It is a technological and economic firm which integrates R & D, application research and product manufacture into one body. The institute is a nationwide Engineering & Technology Center for paper chemicals nominated by Ministry of Chemical Industry, and China Information Center of Paper Chemicals. Zhejiang R & D Engineering Center for Paper Chemicals relys on the institute. And the standing office of China Paper Chemicals Industry Association, one of the national first class trade union registered by Ministry of Civil Affairs, is also settled here. The pubication, "Paper Chemicals" and "Hangzhou Chemicals", are its journals.

Hangzhou Research Institute of Chemical Technology was founded in 1958. For 40-odd years, the institute has been engaged in R & D fine chemicals and won more than 100 items of various awards in different levels, including the first-class and the second-class National Technical Progressing Awards; the first prize for technical progressing awarded by Zhejiang provincial government and Ministry of Chemical Industry. The institute owns more than ten items of national patents of invention and new key-products ranged in national level. It was cited by National Science and Technology Committee and other relevant departments due to its significant contribution to tackle key technical problems as well as many items of technical achievements have reached the world level during the period form "the Sixth Five-year Plan" to "the Ninth Five-year Plan". In recent years, the Institute founded four High-Tech enterprises with the different forms as solely-owned, multi-investment and joint venture. It becomes an institute that is quite well known both at home and abroad for its fruitful efforts on the aspect of turning the technical findings into productivity.
